DNO Substation, Bletchley
Our client, a distribution network operator has many sites where assets (e.g. filled transformers) are situated on concrete plinths with either partial bases and walls or none at all. Carrying out our usual Complex Repairs and Bund Lining, all works were stopped because Adler and Allan staff noticed a concrete slab had previously been added to an existing plinth which was built on loose stone and canter-levered off the existing plinth. This was an extremely vulnerable situation as the added concrete slab had an asset sat on top with main red cable / earthing cables attached, which could sheer off or dislodge causing immediate danger to anyone working on site.
Shawing props were used to support and distribute the weight of the asset sitting on the concrete slab. This then made it safe to remove the loose stone in a safe manner. Once the stone was removed, high density blocks were used to block up the four sides, creating a secure area for the asset to sit on.
Our clients asset has been made safe, secure and in a structurally sound condition. The remainder of the works were able to be completed.
