UKPN Channel Tunnel Rail Link
Since 2006 Adler and Allan has been undertaking the annual servicing of the environmental plant and equipment that protects the remote automatic transformer stations and transformer feeder stations on the Channel Tunnel Rail Link. These automatic transformer and transformer feeder stations are situated along the route of the line between St Pancras and Folkestone. The environmental plant and equipment includes bund water control units and Class 1 full-retention separators and pumping stations.
We constantly review our clients’ needs in order to deliver the most efficient environmental protection. This can result in significant improvements, especially taking advantage of new technology. In 2013 we installed a remote monitoring system for each of the underground cesspools at the three transformer feeder stations. Our remote monitoring system permits real-time monitoring of levels in the cesspits and sends an automatic alarm to a central monitoring point when levels are high. Following an alert, we send a tanker to empty the cesspits – this eliminates unnecessary tanker journeys, and reduces costs. As part of our regular servicing of the bund water control units, separators and pumping stations, we provide a service engineer to accompany the specialised vacuum tanker.
The power supply to a key part of UK transport infrastructure has appropriate environmental protection, which is regularly serviced by Adler and Allan. Our ability to introduce new technologies, such as our remote monitoring system, has enhanced our client’s environmental protection and avoided unnecessary costs.
