The Environment Agency has launched its annual #floodaware campaign to encourage people to find out about their flood risk and sign up to its free, flood warning service. Sign up here.
Over the next two weeks, the Environment Agency will be sharing information on social media and through its website, helping individuals and communities prepare for flooding and take the appropriate steps to clean up flood water safely, quickly and with the least disruption if flooding does take hold. Look out for the #floodaware hash tag.
As one of the UK’s leading flood responders, and a founding member of BERG, which helps communities and businesses plan for and deal with disaster, we’re in full support of the campaign. The UK is becoming wetter, every autumn and winter an increasing number of people fall foul of flooding so understanding your risk and then taking steps to defend against flood water is essential.
According to the Environment Agency, one in six properties is at risk of flooding, so if you haven’t been flooded yet, that’s not to say you won’t be in the future. For businesses, flooding can mean loss of livelihood and downtime.
