Success is no accident - Adler and Allan wins three awards in November

Published: 12 December 2022

It has been an award winning season for us as we have been crowned the best spill responder in the UK and also awarded the title of Best New Forecourt at two recent industry awards.

Double win

The UK and Ireland Spill Awards were held at a Gala Dinner at The Belfry Hotel, Nottingham on Thursday 10 November where we picked our double win. The awards highlight the exceptional work and projects by companies working in the spill industry. There were 3 companies shortlisted in each category.

We were awarded the accolade of best Inland Responder for our successful response to and management of the mitigation of the spill following the Llangennech derailment.

This project required multiple units within our different divisions to respond and assist with the initial clean-up and also with the long-term repair and monitoring. The teamwork displayed throughout was amazing.

Another award of best Marine/International Responder followed on the night for the expert reaction and containment to a fire onboard a yacht housed in a marina and the subsequent clean-up.

Best New forecourt

Following these great wins we also were shortlisted in two categories at the annual APEA awards.

The APEA Awards Dinner is, hands down, the industry’s biggest night of the year, providing a magnificent climax to another year of challenges, hard work and great achievements.

We were shortlisted in the category for Best New Forecourt and decided to submit a entry based on the project we had coordinated on the Isle of Tiree. This unique installation was built on a remote island off the coast of Scotland. Teams from our civils unit, fuel infrastructure services, drainage, and environmental consultancy all came together to help deliver a self-service fuel station that transformed the current site and helped to prepare the island for the future.

As the evening progressed and the many awards given out, we were successful in winning the 2022 award for Best New Forecourt. Independent experts judged all the entries and selected us as winners based on excellence in various criteria including design, innovation, environmental safety and customer offering.

Positive impact

The APEA judges felt that our installation on the Isle of Tiree was a deserved winner for this award.

Everyone has really pulled together in delivering these projects and these prestigious industry award wins celebrate the excellent work by all the teams involved.

Our judges understood how difficult it must be to carry out an installation in such a remote location, and the prohibitive costs and administration challenges involved for a contractor taking on this work. They also praised the installation for the positive impact it has had on the local population on the island: giving 24/7 access to fuel and EV charging for individuals and businesses, and ensuring continued and easy access to fuel into the future.
