On January 27th 2009 a freight train carrying diesel and aviation fuel was derailed near Stewarton, East Ayrshire. Six of the ten wagons were derailed, and one exploded. In January 2009 130 passengers and crew were trapped on a Stranraer ferry when an articulated lorry crashed through the rear access doors of the cross channel catamaran. The lorry was left suspended from the back of the ferry, with the main cab still in the ferry’s loading area, and its trailer bulk powder unit resting on one of the ferry’s stern thrusters. Adler and Allan won a design and build contract for a new petroleum, oils and lubricants (POL) facility at RAF Innsworth barracks in Gloucestershire In August 2011 a caustic tank ruptured and released an estimated 19 tonnes of caustic fluid into site drains and a nearby stream at Ellesmere Port, Liverpool. Adler and Allan provided both the emergency spill response and the continuing monitoring of the site.
Adler and Allan won a large contract to clean four 43 million litre HFO (heavy fuel oil) atmospheric storage tanks at Tarbert Power Station in Co. Kerry, Ireland Adler and Allan won a contract to make safe an underground tank containing cyclopentane for PZ Cussons in Lagos, Nigeria. Adler and Allan won a contract to replace two 125,000 litre vertical cylindrical fuel storage tanks for Sheffield Teaching Hospital. As Principal Contractor in the aftermath of the Buncefield explosion and fire, Adler and Allan had the opportunity to give an unrivalled demonstration of how to respond to a major disaster.
