The Project

Making safe a process plant and associated underground tank containing cyclopentane. Cleaning and dismantling of associated mixing plant. Handling of residual product in the UK.

The Solution

Adler and Allan were recommended to the client after the latter were unable to find a suitably skilled company to carry out the works in the region. A&A visited the plant and scoped out a safe method of draining down the residual cyclopentane and other chemicals from the tank and associated plant. A&A worked with the client to arrange the shipment of the residual product back to the UK after no suitable sites could be found in Nigeria. Cleaning equipment, associated materials and storage drums were shipped out to Nigeria. Once it had arrived in-country a six man team were mobilized and spent 3 weeks carrying out the works. The local authorities took a keen interest in our methodology and our strict approach to safety and waste minimization.

The Outcome

The works were completed ahead of time and on budget despite the challenges of the wet season. PZ Cussons said 'This is to acknowledge your team's excellent performance in carrying out the decommissioning of the plant, and most importantly, your successful completion of cyclopentane uplift and transfer. Your professionalism and strict adherence to safe system of work as agreed in method statements and Risk Assessment contributed greatly to the safe completion of the job and this is highly commendable.'
