Environmental management for aviation sector

Maintain ageing assets, install new fuel infrastructure, and manage your environment.

We work with airport operations, ground support and infrastructure owners to maintain your ageing assets, install new fuel infrastructure, and manage your environment so that you can ensure compliance with environmental regulations, reduce downtime, and achieve your sustainability ambitions.

The next decade will see momentous change within the civil aviation sector as passengers return, alternative fuels gain ground, and the world moves towards decarbonisation and Net-Zero.

With our heritage in defence aviation, we’re bringing military precision and standards to the civil sector. Our expertise helps you uphold quality standards in a heavily regulated environment – and avoid financial penalties and consumer dissatisfaction arising from delays or increased costs.

Additionally, we’re helping organisations refine their infrastructures to adapt to the substantial requirements of new fuel legislation and fuel types.

Tackling key challenges in the aviation sector

Decarbonisation

Transport produced 27% of the UK’s total emissions in 2019, of which 23% (38.5 MtCO2e) came from domestic and international aviation. Fuelled by the government’s transport decarbonisation plan, the industry is committed to reaching Net-Zero by 2050.

Aviation is the hardest area of logistics to decarbonise due to the energy intensity of flying. The focus in the short to medium term is to reduce GHG emissions by accelerating the delivery of sustainable aviation fuels and replacing older planes with newer, more fuel-efficient aircraft.

Proposals to develop Sustainable Aviation Fuels and Zero Emission Flights are being developed, helping the UK become a global hub for low-emission aviation.

New fuels will still carry environmental pollution risks and have their own unique set of storage and maintenance requirements. As your environmental partner we can ensure you remain compliant and protect your most valuable asset.

Maintaining ageing assets

Airline fuel infrastructure and critical assets such as tanks, separators, and drainage, like many sectors, is ageing and requires specialist maintenance regimes to ensure compliance while managing budget constraints.

The aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic

According to an International Air Transport Association (IATA) report even by 2040, air traffic will still be 6% below its pre-pandemic forecast. However, the pandemic has boosted cargo and logistics operations with e-commerce. IATA reports that cargo’s share in total airline revenue has more than tripled between 2016 and 2021, going from 11.4% to 40.3% of total revenue.
