Interceptor and drainage maintenance for independent forecourt retailer

Published: 16 November 2020

The challenge

A large independent forecourt retailer with multiple sites, approached Adler and Allan to provide a combination of routine interceptor and drainage maintenance as well as ad hoc environmental work on half of its sites.

The Guidance for Pollution Prevention legislation is designed to prevent the pollution of watercourses. To do this it is recommended forecourt interceptor and drainage be maintained on a periodic basis.

Our response

We provide a regular program of service and maintenance of the interceptors and drainage across all the sites. Using our fleet of vacuum tankers, jetting tankers and vehicles, as well as CCTV we routinely inspect, clean, service and remediate the interceptor and drainage infrastructure.

Depending on the location of interceptors we sometimes have to close part of the forecourt due to H&S considerations to the public. Usually, this is only for a short period of time as we always work with onsite staff to minimise site disruption.

As well as this routine maintenance we also provide a wealth of ad hoc environmental work for their underground fuel storage:

  • Annual vapour recovery testing
  • Fuel sampling and tank testing
  • Generic pipework maintenance

We also use our new AdlerView™, a non-man entry, ATEX Zone 1 device for remote tank cleaning and visual inspections of fuel tanks across 100 sites.

Finally, our civils team have recently installed some new jet washes in conjunction with the electrical team who are the approved contractor for electrical work and have been contracted to install data cabling to the new jet washes.

The outcome

Our program of ad hoc and routine maintenance ensures their assets remain clean, operational and compliant.

Partnering with Adler and Allan means that this forecourt retailer meets its annual guidance requirement. When we leave site all moving and mechanical parts are working, and all drainage is running clean and free.

The Adler and Allan difference

It is the depth and breadth of our equipment and experience that sets us apart from other environmental companies. We have 22 locations nationwide with tanker and jetting facilities and three waste depots. Our personnel are trained and hold the correct jetting certificate. We can react quickly to spillages and interceptor issues. All our clients are also provided with one point of contact in our contracts team who manage all their routine and ad hoc requests which means we can coordinate an immediate and joined up response from any division or depot.
