Getting to know Lucie Davis, HR Apprentice
Meet the people behind our success as we unveil the stories, passions, and expertise of our dedicated team. Discover how their experience enables us to become a trusted environmental services partner for clients across the UK. This time, let's get to know Lucie Davis, HR Apprentice.
What do you currently do at Adler & Allan?
I am a HR Apprentice. I have been given quite a lot of exposure to HR in terms of projects, but at the moment, I am in the recruitment team and I'm loving it.
I am working alongside the recruitment business partners, basically learning how to recruit - screening candidates, arranging interviews, communicating internally with stakeholders, getting feedback on interviews, talking through processes, engaging with candidates, making offers and giving good news (or delivering bad news). I also support candidates through the process, while communicating with the wider business and different departments.
What did you do before Adler & Allan?
I started working when I was 16, so I was already working part-time as a waitress at a pub when I finished my A levels in history, psychology and English literature at St Aidan's, Harrogate in June 2023. I was later promoted to supervisor for the restaurant and the bar, which was brilliant. So, hospitality background, on and off for a few years as I did take a gap year too.
That job included talking to customers and liaising with different departments. After I was promoted, I was also looking after people on their shifts, noticing their strengths, and allocating them to different sections. I was also overseeing a very full restaurant. I absolutely loved it, but it was only ever going to be something to keep me entertained; I love people and working with people, and that’s why I applied for my role at Adler & Allan.
What attracted you to our HR Apprentice position?
When I looked on the website, I saw the different divisions, but then I saw the careers page and everything that Adler & Allan does, especially the military community - the company is really inclusive, which I liked.
Plus, I have always wanted to get into HR - my mum works in HR, so I have grown up around that. HR seemed like a growing part of Adler & Allan and the website stressed being an innovative, growing company. Everything is growing - teams, people, departments - and now here is an apprentice position, so it looked like a great place to work.
What are you enjoying about the role so far?
I love the people, working with the candidates, my team and the way it is growing, and the trips out. Everyone that I have spoken to has welcomed me with open arms, which is lovely, and I am in a comfortable position where I am learning and can ask any question I want. I am learning everyday.
What are you passionate about outside of work?
I am very much family-oriented, and I spend a lot of time with my partner. I have a love for the gym; keeping fit and healthy, exercising, and weightlifting (which I thoroughly enjoy).
What’s next for Lucie in 2024?
I am starting a recruitment resource course this month. I have done the enrolment with my boss, made some calls, and finalised all the details - I actually scored quite highly when rating my skills, so I was impressed!
Other than that, continue growing within the team and making my mark. 2024 is definitely my year to learn and grow and 2025, I'm sure, I will kickstart everything.
