Climate change risk and adaptation
Climate change poses perhaps the biggest threat to the planet, our economy and lifestyles. Risks from a changing climate and extreme weather events are increasing and affect different companies in different ways.
We can assess the material risks to your assets, your operations and your supply chains, taking into account different change scenarios in near, medium and long term timescales.

Once the risks are understood, we provide you with practical, actionable measures to adapt your sites and processes. These include advisory, monitoring and engineering solutions.
Our adaptation pathways demonstrate the relative benefits of incremental improvements compared to large capital projects, with business cases including the indirect advantages and disadvantages quantified – allowing you to make informed decisions in a timely manner.
Legislation
All regulated facilities with an environmental permit issued by the Environmental Agency are required, by law, to incorporate a climate change risk assessment and adaptation plan into their management systems.
- If your permit was issued on or after 1 April 2023, then you must integrate climate change adaptation into your management system.
- If your permit was issued before April 2023, then you must complete a climate change risk assessment by 1 April 2024.

A climate change risk assessment must assess the potential impacts to your site, and indirect impacts to and from the wider locality, based on climate projections of a 2°C rise by 2050 and a 4°C rise by 2100.
