Getting to know Mica Robins, Operations Manager
Meet the people behind our success as we unveil the stories, passions, and expertise of our dedicated team. Discover how their experience enables us to become a trusted environmental services partner for clients across the UK. This time, let's get to know Mica Robins, Operations Manager.
What did you do before you worked at Utility Line?
I studied marketing at Leeds and did an apprenticeship at an agency after I graduated. Marketing was fun, especially when I got to work with big brands in Australia at an agency in Melbourne - talk about an adventure. I lived there for three whole years, soaking up the sun and having a blast.
Eventually, I moved back to the UK and stuck with marketing agencies until I had my first child. When I was ready to get back into the workforce, Utility Line came knocking. The company was super young and needed someone to help things run smoothly, so I jumped on board. It felt like the perfect opportunity to use my skills in a different way and be part of something from the ground up. I started in January 2023 and was employee number 10. Now, we're a team of over 50 – it's been amazing to see the growth!
What do you do at Utility line?
So, what exactly do I do as Operations Manager? Well, it's kind of a juggling act, but in the best way possible. I oversee everything from HR, making sure everyone feels welcome and gets settled in, to planning how we find new talent. Marketing and advertising? Yep, that's on my plate too. Plus, I wrangle the finances, keeping an eye on budgets and forecasting for the future.
Basically, I help ensure everything runs like a well-oiled machine. Oh, and let's not forget building relationships with clients and constantly looking for new business opportunities. It's a lot, but with Adler & Allan being part of the picture now, there's a whole team to back us up, which is awesome.
What is the biggest challenge facing customers who require high-voltage connections?
Honestly, the most challenging part for our clients, especially when it comes to high voltage connections, is getting things started. There's just so much red tape and stuff outside of their control that can slow things down. But that's where Utility Line comes in, we basically handle everything from A to Z, making the whole process a breeze.
What excites you about working for Utility Line?
Seeing it transform over the past year and a half. We went from a tiny team in a portacabin to this fantastic office with a crew of over 50. Plus, being acquired by a huge company can only be a good thing. And let's not forget the amazing team – watching everyone grow and develop their skills has been inspiring. The projects we work on are so varied and large-scale, it's impossible to get bored.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I'm all about family time. I love spending time with them. Holidays are my other great love. I’ve just got back from a trip to Ibiza, and guess what? I’m already planning our next adventure – a double-header to Majorca and Marrakesh.
What’s next for Mica in 2024?
Looking ahead to 2024, I'm excited to keep growing in my role as Utility Line continues to expand. We're even planning a move, so that's keeping me busy too.
