That’s why we’re thrilled to have been honoured in the ‘Marine/International Responder’ category at the UK & Ireland Spill Association Annual Awards, which recognised not only our expertise in marine pollution response, but also our commitment to safeguarding the environment and supporting sustainable business practices.

In March 2023, a significant oil spill incident in a harbour area - a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and an ecological haven - posed a substantial threat to the area's pristine nature reserves and delicate ecology.

The challenges of protecting nature

Responding to an oil spill in this unique location presented a complex set of challenges. The area's sensitive ecology, active port traffic, and unpredictable weather conditions all played a role in shaping the response strategy. The harbour is internationally significant for wildlife conservation and is home to numerous protected species, making it essential to minimise the environmental impact.

We believe in the power of collaboration and worked closely with the responsible party, regulators, affected parties, and the broader community to develop a comprehensive response and remediation strategy. This collaborative approach allowed us to make a real difference in safeguarding the environment.

A swift and efficient response

Efficiency and effectiveness are at the heart of our operation. Our partnership with Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL) enabled us to execute a well-structured strategy that ensured the efficient cleanup of affected shorelines and, most importantly, the minimisation of environmental impact. This swift response highlighted the importance of preparedness and well-coordinated efforts.
