We are seeking to appoint Environmental Monitoring Technicians to join our team servicing a major client in the following areas: Reading, Central Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Thames Valley and Greater London area.

Employed on a full time basis working a  45 hour week across a 7 day shirt pattern, the postholder will report to the Environmental Monitoring Project Manager. The primary purpose of this post is to attend and investigate water pollution incidents, undertake field based monitoring and collect environmental samples for laboratory analysis. Key tasks and accountabilities associated with the role are as follows:

  • Attending and investigating water pollution incidents across the Thames Valley & Greater London area
  • Undertaking field monitoring works including water quality measurements and sampling.
  • Technical report writing in response to water pollution incidents.
  • Provision of accurate and timely information to line management.
  • Supporting team performance by sharing knowledge and best practices at all levels.
  • Any other duties for which the post holder is qualified and able to carry out.

Applicants should be educated to degree level in a Biological or Environmental Sciences discipline and demonstrate an understanding of water chemistry and the indicative parameters.

Experience in scientific fieldwork, and an enthusiasm for working outdoors in all weathers is essential as is experience of aquatic macro-invertebrate sampling and aquatic macro-invertebrate identification skills to Family level. Strong analytical and numerical skills are essential and applicants should possess a full, clean, UK driving licence, be competent with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint and be able to work independently and as part of a team, following precise protocols.

Excellent organisational and time-management skills are essential as are excellent communication skills.

The postholder will be expected to travel throughout the UK and Ireland, work away from home which will include overnight stay and to work long days as this is a feature of the role.  The nature of the duties of this role require working in all weather conditions, and can be physically demanding walking for varying distances, carrying equipment and working in and near water. The postholder should be motivated, friendly and confident when interacting with clients and consistently deliver excellent service whilst representing the Company in a positive manner.
